The Value of a Customer

Have you ever stopped to think about the actual lifetime value of a customer? It doesn’t just necessarily mean that one customer, but everyone that customer has also sent your way whether that’s through face to face referrals, testimonials or simply checking in on socials.

When you are calculating the cost of acquisition of a customer these are all factors that you need to consider and the reason why the longer you’ve been in business the easier it gets.

Say you were to do a promotion. You give a first-time customer a 20% discount. Just to make it easy, let’s say the total is $100 and they’ve saved $20. You’ve made $80, which should cover your expenses and advertising costs to aquire that customer. Hopefully there’s a little profit as well.

Depending on your business that customer might come back a few more times. They tell their friends and some of them use your services. They leave a review which has sparked someone else to use you. A couple of those people have ‘checked in’ to your business on socials and have brought your business in front of more people that didn’t know you existed.

Now how many people are aware of and have used your business from that 20% discount?

What I learnt from a 7 year old.

The other day I held a workshop in my studio and a lot of things that kept coming up were the blocks we put on ourselves.

A lot of times we think

‘I can’t do this until….’

‘When I achieve this, then…’

‘I can’t charge that because…’

We make excuses up for ourselves about why we haven’t achieved the greatness we want for ourselves.

Maybe you haven’t got a website yet, or you feel like you need a piece of software or equipment.

One of the things that came up while we were chatting was why I had been putting off running my networking events in my studio. It’s the perfect space and yet I felt like I didn’t have enough chairs or a big enough screen. Then I realised Ikea has chairs for $7. That’s what was holding me back – $7 can you believe it!? Crazy hey!

So I’m doing it! I’m not letting my stupid blocks get in the way anymore!

I recently realised that I was over complicating things with sales funnels and systems and putting on the ‘when i have this then’ hat. I’ve since realised you can strip it right back and simplify everything and still deliver a quality, high end product!

Ever heard the saying ‘KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid!’

You all know I love my systems and automations, but sometimes it can be a juggle between where you are right now and where you want to be, and you’ve just got to get creative and figure out the how.

Which brings me back to what I learnt from a 7 year old. That 7 year old being my daughter. Last week my kids had under 8’s day at school, which is where they have a bunch of activities to try and complete by the end of the day.

My daughter, Skylar was making a magic carpet in the India pavilion and the teacher was having conniptions because she wasn’t following the rules. They had some beautifully patterned craft paper that they were supposed to cut pieces out of to decorate a brown piece of paper which they had attached tassels to the ends to make the carpet. Skylar didn’t like the brown paper so she created a carpet twice the size out of the other paper and then cut the brown paper with the tassels in half and attached it to each end. I had to laugh because she is super creative like her mumma and you can’t put her creativity in a box which is something I love about her and will continue to nurture.

So the lesson for today is…

You don’t need to be put in a box. You don’t need to do what everyone else is doing.

Get creative and do it your way!

Because your greatness is only inhibited by your own blocks.

What’s Holding You Back?

Self doubt has got to be the number one thing standing between you and success!

Our lizard brains are programmed to go into fight or flight mode when something gets scary and running your own business can be scary! You’ve got to learn new things, test them out, put yourself out there and what happens when everything doesn’t go to plan? Do you fall flat on your face and ugly cry in the bathroom?

Guess what! It happens to the best of us! But that’s not any reason to give up on yourself and your dream? Is it?

Our limiting beliefs can be created by our own internal dialogue as well as the blueprint that’s been ingrained in us as we grow up. They can also be the result of external pressures and ideologies.

You will only be able to live up to your greatest expectation of yourself so live large!

Set yourself some BHAGS (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) – these are the ones that seem out of this world but they are totally not impossible. It might be to make a million dollars, buy your Dream Home or work 2 days a week. None of these goals are impossible to achieve, but they may feel it from where you are sitting right now.

By visualising yourself as having those things you are programming your brain to think of these goals as ‘normal’ ambitions making you more likely to achieve them!

Where focus goes energy flows!

Start with the big picture and set consistent daily achievable steps to get there.

The number one thing you need to run a successful business

Are you struggling to run a successful business?

If you feel like you’re swimming in a sea of sameness and trying to figure out how to stand out from the crowd, you may be missing this.

Every market is saturated – it’s a fact. It is extremely difficult to stand out from the crowd when there are 101 people out there doing the same things as you.

So how do you stand out from the crowd?

Connection and Authenticity.

Our daily lives are saturated with information and sales pitches. We have become immune to the messaging.

The number one way to stand out to is make an authentic connection with your audience so that they know, like and trust you.

I don’t know about you but I get lots of friend requests daily from people reaching out to me on Facebook. Most of them I don’t know who they are, but I can see that we have some sort of connection, whether it’s friends, same town, same school etc.

If you want people to start listening to you, you first need to create a connection. Let them know about you and also find out about them. Find out why they reached out to you in the first place.

Even in the dating world we are so void of connection swiping our way through the dating fish pond, the number one thing we crave as humans is that human connection!

It used to be that we needed to be seen 5 times before someone would buy from us. This is now stated as 22. Yes, that’s right! 22 times. How are you showing up and creating a deeper connection with your ideal clients?

Ideally you want to be doing video and showing up in real life. That’s the fastest way to create that know, like, trust factor and build a successful business.

Repurpose your content as much as possible. For instance this blog post was created from a Facebook Live I did today. I’ve uploaded it to Youtube, shared on different social media, created a blog post and possibly emailed it out to you as well.
